Alcohol: effects and consequences

Contrary to what is commonly thought, alcohol makes you fat and causes damage to liver and central nervous system.

How does the organism: alcohol is absorbed from the stomach and 20% for the remaining 80% from the first part of the intestine. If the stomach is empty, the absorption is faster.
Alcohol passes into the blood and absorbed by the blood to the liver, which has the task of destroying it. Until the liver has not completed the "digestion", alcohol continues to circulate and spread in different organs.

Effects: sense of vomiting, double vision, limited of side vision, altered perception of distances, reduced reaction time, drowsiness.

Consequences: according to figures provided by the World Health Organization, each year are attributable to alcohol consumption:
- 10% of all diseases;
- 10% of all cancers;
- 63 % of liver cirrhosis;
- 41% of the murders;
- 45% of all accidents;
- 9% of disability and chronic diseases.

Only in Italy, in 2000, traffic accidents have caused: 8,000 deaths, 170,000 hospitalizations, 600,000 emergency care and 20,000 permanent disabilities.
